Free horror game
I Love my Job is a free thrilling experience for Roblox created by TubPong. The game sounds fairly innocuous, even boring. However, one look at the screenshots will tell you that this is a horror game. In total, I Love my Job has been played over 1.8 million times and over 55,000 players have this experience on their favorites list. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the game only had 2 active players. The rest likely saw the lights flicker and bolted.
Roblox isn’t famous for its horror experiences, but the platform definitely has a number of solid titles that can hold their own against indie and triple-A titles alike. I Love my Job is a situational horror in that the game takes a boring locale like an office and plays on the fears that people already have about working alone at night in what feels like a liminal sace. If you’re looking for a more traditional horror experience, try Vampire Hunters or The Horror Elevator.
Liminal space
An office is the perfect setting for a liminal space horror because of the inherently liminal nature of such a space in the inky depths of the night. Offices are bustling places in the day. There’s no time to think about existential dread when the environment around you is a cacophony of phones, the clicking of fingers on keyboards, and people flipping through pages or talking to one another. At night, however, they’re empty, dark, and you usually only have the light directly in your workspace on. Shadows start to move and take on a life of their own. Enter I Love my Job.
Gameplay
You’ll spawn in a lobby where you might see one or two other players. However, once you enter the elevator, you’ll most likely start the actual game alone. Well, there won’t be any other players in the experience. You won’t be alone though. You’ll need to complete various tasks to progress with the game - a phrase that here means wait for the inevitable jump scare.
Your first task will be to navigate through the dark with your flashlight to find the main computer room. Once you’ve done this, you’ll need to venture out into the halls again to switch on all the servers.
Appropriately terrifying
If you were first in line for FNAF and Poppy Playtime, and have dabbled in Sonic.exe and don’t mind looking directly into Momo’s eyes, this is the game for you. If not, hug the walls, keep your finger hovering over the sprint button and cling to your flashlight like it could save your life.
No matter what you like to play, this is a game that you should try at least once. Horror is good for your heart health.
